Although in Britain it has been a sport of the well-to-do, anyone can go fly fishing for trout in New Zealand if they have a licence. The Duchess of York (later the Queen Mother) holds a trout she caught in Lake Taupō in 1927. She had fond memories of the lake, and returned several times.
