Dieffenbach’s account of New Zealand

Ernst Dieffenbach, a German, spent two years exploring parts of New Zealand for the New Zealand Company. He then published this wide-ranging description of the natural features, including some of the first observations of the rocks and thermal activity in the central part of the North Island.
