The New Zealand Magazine

The New Zealand Magazine

This is the cover of the first issue of the New Zealand Magazine, published in 1876. The quarterly presented itself as a journal of general literature and sought new perspectives on education, religion, politics and social issues. Its writers included many of the country's leading public intellectuals, like Robert Stout, but the periodical lacked popular appeal and folded the following year.
