Kōrero: Restaurants and food outlets

Hungry settlers not equipped with their own cooking facilities would have welcomed the dining options offered by Wellington establishments Barrett's Hotel and the Hope Coffee and Eating House in the 1840s. Barrett's laid on a daily 'ordinary' – a set meal – at 2 p.m. each day, and cold food was available at all times. Hope's offered something similar, a hot joint (meat on the bone) between 12 and 2 p.m., and cold meats outside these hours.
