A Certificate of Proficiency, 1934

Mary Mackersey of Hastings West School gained her Certificate of Proficiency in 1934, two years before the qualification was abolished. Mary went on to obtain an MA in history from Victoria University of Wellington and, as Mary Boyd, was a lecturer there until her retirement in 1987. Among her many research projects, she wrote a history of Hastings in 1984.
