The New Zealand Prostitutes' Collective produced the Stepping forward booklet in 2010. It aimed to provide those entering the sex industry with information about issues that workers confront and ways to respond to them. Stepping forward included advice on relationships with clients, relevant legislation, payment systems, taxation and safe sex practices. The image on the cover captured the way that sex workers on the job may adopt styles of dress and behaviour that are often very different from their lives away from work. Just as other workers may don a suit, put on overalls or wear a uniform, so sex workers often dress for their job. They may look and behave quite differently when they are not at work.
