Hillary’s first autobiography, High adventure, was published in 1955. An account of his mountaineering exploits, notably the Everest expedition, it was a best seller. With the proceeds, he and Louise built a house in Remuera, Auckland. Writing was a major source of income for the rest of Hillary’s life.
