Section of a well

Section of a well

This cross section shows the sediment and rock layers drilled in 1888 by the South Pacific Company at a well inland from Gisborne. Although traces of oil were found in this well, which was drilled to a depth of over 400 metres, the East Coast has never produced any commercial oil or gas.
