This Christmas card was designed by L. D. Austin, a controversial music critic and prolific writer of letters to the editor. It shows him at the age of 83, presenting a dead bat to the representatives of modernism in music, art and literature. Austin regarded modernist artists as destroying all that was good and beautiful. He upheld Brahms and Chopin as the epitome of culture.
