Equal pay, 1960

Equal pay, 1960

The staged introduction of equal pay in the public service is satirised in this 1960 cartoon. Walter Nash, prime minister at the time, is shown on bended knee, offering women voters ‘an awful nice case’ with nothing in it. Finance Minister Arnold Nordmeyer keeps a beady eye on proceedings.
