Rangi and Papatūānuku, 1907

Like many Europeans in the 19th century, the German artist Wilhelm Dittmer was fascinated by Māori culture. This 1907 drawing depicts Rangi (sky father) and Papatūānuku (earth mother) separated by tī koūka, a cabbage tree.
