Haurongo: Haast, Julius von

Haast and Hochstetter

Image
A pencil and watercolour sketch showing a man sitting on the roof of a thatched hut and drawing on a piece of paper.

Julius Haast and Ferdinand Hochstetter travelled around the Auckland region in 1859 to undertake a geological survey. Haast drew Hochstetter sketching during that expedition. Hochstetter was presumably seeking a better visual vantage point from the roof of a hut.
