
In order to take out a patent on a work it must be described accurately. This drawing was part of the 1906 patent application by aviation pioneer Richard Pearse. After several years of building aircraft at his South Canterbury farm, Pearse was reported to have managed sustained flight in 1903. However, in the US the Wright brothers had patented their aircraft two months earlier than Pearse.
