Illustration for a children's reader

Illustration for a children's reader

While she was teaching at Pipiriki Native School on the Whanganui River, Sylvia began to create readers for the children based on their own experience and language. This illustration is one of a series of large watercolours she produced, intended for a book about a little Māori boy called Ihaka. However, it was never published.
