Wellington Harbour

The impressionist style developed in Europe in the late 19th century. It aimed to capture the movement of light on a scene. The aesthetic is evident in James Nairn’s 1894 painting 'Wellington Harbour'. The visible brushstrokes highlight the glistening afternoon sun on the moving sea.
