The government store

Image
The government store

This sketch by James Richardson shows Commercial Bay, Auckland (later the site of the Shortland Street post office) with the government store and the tents of traders, including John Logan Campbell, in 1840. Unsold goods were usually handed over to the government store for safekeeping.
