‘Approach to Dunedin, evening’

Artist William Mathew Hodgkins, who had been painting since his arrival in Dunedin in 1862, made this evocative watercolour of outer Otago Harbour in the late 1880s. There is a paddle steamer in the foreground and other ships in the middle distance.
