Kōrero: Street life

Queen Street, 1886

Image
Queen Street, 1886

This 1886 engraving captures the atmosphere of Auckland’s Queen Street. The slow pace of traffic meant pedestrians were able to safely cross the street at any point. It was common for friends or acquaintances to stop and chat in the middle of the street.
