Academy of Performing Arts

The WEL Energy Trust Academy of Performing Arts opened on the University of Waikato campus in 2001, providing an arts venue for the city, as well as facilities for the university’s music, theatre, dance and Māori performing arts programmes. The university, which developed on its Hillcrest site from 1964, attracted academics and students from within and beyond Waikato, contributing to Hamilton’s growth.
