Story: Hawke’s Bay region

Port of Napier

Port of Napier

The Port of Napier is located on Napier’s outer coast underneath Bluff Hill. The inner harbour at Ahuriri was also used by shipping until the 1931 earthquake raised the seabed. As well as handling imports and exports, the port provides berthing facilities for visiting cruise ships. Eighty-seven were scheduled to visit during the 2019/20 season, which ended early because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
