The Alpine Fault and sea-floor spreading
This PDF (618 KB) is a 1971 paper by David Christoffel. He used sea-floor magnetic measurements to estimate plate movements in the southern Australian and Pacific plates. The findings showed a high rate of movement across the Alpine Fault over the last 10 million years. This helped persuade New Zealand earth scientists that transcurrent movement on the Alpine Fault was late Cenozoic rather than much older.
