Kaputerangi, a historic , lies at the upper end of the Kōhī Point scenic reserve. It was returned to the people of Ngāti Awa under a Treaty of Waitangi land claim settlement in March 2005. This commemorative pou (ceremonial pole) was erected on the site in April 2005.
