Story: Motor sport

Motorcycle racing, 1923

Zoom in for details of these photos taken at the Auckland Motor Racing Club's sports day at Takapuna racecourse, in 1923. One of the stars was Percy Coleman, who began racing motorcycles at the age of 14. Riding Harley-Davidsons, he set a series of world records for the 'flying mile' (one lap of the course) on this grass track.
