Hochstetter’s vision of the landscape

Ferdinand Hochstetter, a young Austrian geologist, explored central New Zealand in 1858 and 1859, and wrote a popular account of his travels. The English edition, published in 1867, has an embossed cover showing landscape features and luxurious vegetation.
