Te Pōrere pā

Te Pōrere pā

Te Pōrere was the last fixed defensive position occupied by Te Kooti and his followers. It is located to the west of Mt Tongariro, and although defeated there, Te Kooti managed to escape into the bush further west. Te Pōrere has been restored by Heritage New Zealand and is the best-preserved New Zealand wars pā site.
