Te Pōrere pā

Te Pōrere pā

Te Pōrere , west of Mt Tongariro, was the last fixed defensive position occupied by Te Kooti and his followers. Although he was defeated there, Te Kooti managed to escape into nearby bush. Te Pōrere has been restored by Heritage New Zealand and is the best-preserved New Zealand Wars pā site.
