Though online auction and trading websites did not provide the heightened atmosphere found in traditional auction houses, online bidders still experienced the exciting sense of competition that came with buying things this way. In the photograph above a Trade Me user is hovering over the 'place bid' button in the hope that she will triumph over her rivals.
