A koroua (elder) engages in whaikōrero (speech-making) at a tangi at Ōrākei, Auckland. He is supported by women wearing and holding greenery as a sign of mourning. In 1951 Ngāti Whātua of Ōrākei had the last 12.5 acres (5 hectares) of their land compulsorily taken by the government, and lost their last tūrangawaewae (place to stand).
