As country towns grew, shops became more specialised, and sold an increasing number of fashionable goods. This is the largest retail store in Rangiora, probably about 1915. It has on sale some glamorous hats and fabrics, which would have been imported from Britain. But the shop also sells grocery items, visible on the left. The specialisation of city businesses had not yet reached the country town.
