Ducks have long been kept by many farm households. The Mallard and Muscovy breeds are believed to be the ancestors of all domestic ducks. The Rouen (above left), bred in France, is a larger version of the Mallard and kept for both eggs and meat. The creamy-white Pekin originates from China, is larger than the Rouen, and also provides good meat and eggs.
