Tramping became a popular leisure activity in the 1920s. These trampers were the first to cross the Tararua Range from Levin to Eketāhuna in 1927. They are, from left, J. Logan, E. Lancaster and W. Walker. The photographer is G. L. Adkin. He and Lancaster had made the first crossing of the Tararuas further south in 1909.
