Conservation volunteers discuss where to place native seedlings, at Wairio wetlands, on the eastern side of Lake Wairarapa. In July 2006 the Department of Conservation and conservation group Ducks Unlimited began a massive planting project. The aim was to restore the natural habitat of waterfowl, which has been lost through drainage, grazing and pests.
