Hair spa, 1867

W. Brice, a Christchurch ‘coiffeur’ (hairdresser), advertised the opening of an extension to his salon in 1867. The equivalent of a 21st-century hair spa, it offered baths, showers, brushware, perfumes and – instead of the herbal teas of the 2000s – tobacco and cigars.
