Wharekōrari and Wills at Waikawa

In 1848 the naturalist Walter Mantell was travelling through the South Island with Alfred Wills and Wharekōrari, a Māori guide. He painted this view of Southland, with Wharekōrari seated at left, and Wills lying on his pack, facing the hills.
