‘Mt Egmont from the southward’ by Charles Heaphy (1st of 2)

‘Mt Egmont from the southward’ by Charles Heaphy

Many artists have drawn, painted and photographed Mt Taranaki (Mt Egmont). Charles Heaphy was one of the first, probably in 1840. The steep slope of the mountain is inaccurate – it may have been partly covered in cloud when he made his preliminary sketch. A lithograph version was published by the New Zealand Company in 1842.
