This graph gives a snapshot of average house prices across the country in June 2008. Auckland house prices were the highest of all the metropolitan areas, but they were surpassed by those in the Queenstown Lakes district. Queenstown’s prices are so high because it is an international tourist destination and many properties have wealthy overseas owners.
