Statistics New Zealand's time use surveys show how much time on average New Zealanders spent doing some major home-based leisure activities. Television and video watching were by far the most time consuming activities in both the 1998/99 and 2009/10 surveys and men spent more time doing this than women. The total time spent watching increased between the two surveys. Women spent a bit more time reading than men, and more time reflecting and relaxing, though this activity was more equal by 2009/10. Men spent more time playing computer games, and the total time spent on this activity increased between the two surveys. Reflecting and relaxation time dropped considerably between the two surveys, whereas mass-media and electronic activities increased substantially.
