Some hobbies are expensive and possible only for people with generous disposable incomes. Model helicopter enthusiast Neville Dawson (foreground) was photographed flying this model helicopter in Wellington in 1982. He had spent 10 months building it at a cost of $4,000 (around $14,000 in 2013 terms). He said the expenditure was manageable: 'It's reasonably expensive but when it's a hobby you don't mind'. Terry Bannister (background) was a fellow enthusiast.
