Restaurateur Leon Langley opened the Attic Coffee House in Cashel Street, Christchurch, in 1957. It was one of the city's earliest modern cafés. The Attic was not just a place to get good coffee; like all cafés of this period it was a place to meet friends and enjoy conversation, as the man and woman at left appear to be doing.
