This graph shows the annual totals of those who came to New Zealand, less those who left (net migration). It also shows the total numbers of those who received government assistance with their fare. From 1945 to 1967 there was a consistent net surplus of immigrants. The slump in wool prices in 1967 had a major impact, and after a brief revival in 1973–75 economic pressures led to a decline in immigration, with an end to assistance in 1975.
