Māori graduation

By the early 2000s the Māori participation rate in tertiary education had risen significantly compared with previous decades. One reason for this was the opening of Māori tertiary institutes (wānanga) that taught programmes and courses in a way that better suited Māori learning styles. This is graduation day at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, a Māori university established in 1991 by Ngāti Awa of the Bay of Plenty.
