Hochstetter’s map

German geologist Ferdinand Hochstetter led an expedition through Waikato in 1859, in order to make a detailed geological survey of the region. One of the outcomes was a geological map, which also shows the route taken by Hochstetter and his party, and the locations of mission stations and .
