Story: Horse and greyhound racing

Raglan races

This poster advertises races to be held at the Waikato seaside town of Raglan on 31 December 1891, under the auspices of the Auckland Racing Club. The date – the last day of the year – would have been a holiday for many locals and visitors, making it ideal for a race meeting. Raglan was just one of many small settlements that ran horse races at the time, and well into the 20th century.
