Story: Elections and campaigns

Election results for 1935

Before television, newspapers and their offices provided election results reports. In Palmerston North the Manawatu Evening Standard building and the two smaller buildings either side display the results of the 1935 election. The three groupings listed are Labour, National and others. The National Party did not officially form until 1936, but the United and Reform parties, which had been working together as a coalition government, campaigned together as the National Political Federation for the 1935 election.
