Te Wananga newspaper was published in Napier in the 1870s. It was the newspaper of the Repudiation movement, which was organised by Hēnare Matua and supported by Pākehā politicians. Its aim was to repudiate land sales and to this end it studied Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Declaration of Independence. Both documents were republished in English and Māori in Te Wananga in 1876.
