Story: Shipping

The coaster

In the late 1940s the coaster Breeze, still going strong at a steady 9 knots, was immortalised in The coaster, a famous National Film Unit production of 1948. In this film clip the ship travels from Wellington up the west coast to Whanganui. The words were written by the poet Denis Glover and read by Selwyn Toogood.
