This film clip deals with the two referendums of 23 September 1967. One asked whether licensing hours should be extended beyond 6 p.m. 64.4% of voters supported later closing, and the notorious 'six o'clock swill' ended after half a century. The second referendum asked whether the parliamentary term should be extended to four years. 68.1% of voters opted for the status quo – three years.
