Whakatū meatworks closes, 1986

The number of people working in the secondary (manufacturing) sector dropped sharply from the late 1980s as some industries could no longer operate economically. Watch this television news clip of the closure of the historic meat works at Whakatū, in Hawke’s Bay, which put hundreds of people out of work.
