Story: Wellington places

Establishing pastoralism

In 1844 Frederick Weld led a flock of sheep around the coast from Wellington to the grasslands of Wairarapa. The trip led to the establishment of a pastoral industry in Wellington province, providing a new foundation for its economy. The trek was recreated for the 1970s television series Landmarks. This clip follows the route around the eastern bays to Pencarrow.
