Michele Leggott has been an influential New Zealand poet, not only for her own poems, which are marked by powerful imagery and clever word play, but also for her wider role within the poetry community. As an academic, she has been a sympathetic critic, especially aware of the contribution of women poets in the country. She also helped establish the New Zealand Electronic Poetry Centre, and has published many of her poems online. One of those was 'Nice feijoas,' which appeared in both the online collection, Best New Zealand Poems 2009, and also her published collection, Mirabile dictu (2009). Listen to her reading the poem.
