James Cook has appeared regularly on New Zealand stamps. The two-shilling stamp of the 1935 pictorial issue showed Cook being greeted by Māori on his first landing at Poverty Bay on 8 October 1769. This scene first appeared on one of the stamps issued to mark the Christchurch Exhibition in 1906.
